As part of Refugee Week (18-24 June), Libraries ACT have partnered with Afghan Women on the Move to launch “The Power of Colour” art exhibition.
The exhibition is a creative display of storytelling through mix media. This story telling creates a platform for woman to share their experiences and knowledge for all to learn from.
Consisting of eleven thought-provoking artworks, Iranian-Australian artist ‘Lida Farahin’ connected with women from different backgrounds including Ukrainian, Afghani, Iranian, Rwanda in central Africa, Indian, Syrian, and Pakistani to share their life stories. The artworks, mostly in the shape of an “eye”, reflect on how each woman sees the world and the journeys taken. It shares the messages of resistance, resilience, persistence and belonging.
The exhibition will be on dispaly between 19th to 30th June and it is open to public at ACT Heritage Library Mon-Fri 9.30-5pm and on Saturdays 10-4pm. ACTHL is closed on Sundays.
The exhibition gives a voice to these women to pass their lived experiences and knowledge onto their family, community, next generations of migrants and wider community of Australia as well as the world with the potential to turn it into a thriving enterprise.
