Refugee Week happens each year and is coordinated by the Refugee Council of Australia to raise awareness of the issues affecting refugees. This year the theme of ‘healing’ provides a means to foster harmony and togetherness - to unite individuals, communities, and organisations from many different backgrounds behind a shared cause. The theme provides a powerful reminder that, “…regardless of our differences, we all share a common humanity”. (https://www.refugeeweek.org.au/refugee-week-theme-2022/)

Gowrie NSW Education Hub are hosting a panel discussion to provide space to reflect on this years theme of ‘Healing’. Four early childhood inclusion advocates will share their reflections based on their work with refugee children and families on this years theme and importance of this week.

Our Panel include:

  • Su Pancaldi: Coordinator of our Armidale Early Learning Centre
  • Leah Hill: Coordinator of our Coffs Harbour Early Learning Centre (pre-recorded)
  • Jessica Halliday: Early Learning Centre Assistant Manager
  • Rebecca Golden: Early Learning Centres Manager

This is a free event, but if you have the capacity, we encourage a small donation to Jessica's Trek for Refugees with the Charity and Humanitarian Organisation Act for Peace. During the panel, she will share more information about the Trek and how it supports initiatives that reduce displacement and create safety, dignity and belonging for all people.
