The Mirrabooka Refugee Week Committee would like to invite you to the Refugee Week Freedom Cup and Family Fun Day event on Saturday 15 June 2024, at Herb Graham Rec Centre Oval, 38 Ashbury Crescent, Mirrabooka.

Refugee Week is a national celebration that recognises the situation of refugees around the world and promotes harmony and togetherness. Activities held during Refugee Week unite individuals, communities and organisations from many backgrounds behind the common cause of raising awareness of the issues affecting over 82 million forcibly displaced people worldwide as a result of war, persecution and human rights violations. 

The theme for 2024 is ‘Finding Freedom: Family’. Freedom means many different things to different people and can range from living without the fear of war, to safely accessing education and employment. Everyday millions of people across the world embark on dangerous journeys for the sole purpose of finding safety and freedom. In Australia we are lucky to enjoy many individual freedoms every day, including religion, speech, association, and equal opportunity. Embracing tolerance, mutual respect and compassion for those in need are values we cherish as part of our national identity. Welcoming and supporting humanitarian entrants as they establish a new life in Australia and experience these freedoms ultimately benefits us all. It ensures that all migrants have the chance to reach their full potential and participate fully in the Australian community.

The Mirrabooka Refugee Week Freedom Cup and Family Fun Day will bring together a number of the many refugees who have resettled in Perth, as well as other members of the vibrant local community. In addition to supporting the day with your attendance, we invite you to bring a team to participate in the Soccer Tournament.
