The ARA Youth Ambassadors at Le Fevre High School are a group of senior students dedicated to learning about and raising awareness of refugee issues. We are selling raffle tickets to raise funds for the Australian Refugee Association (ARA) and Cisarua Learning Limited, and proceeds will be split 50/50 between these two organisations. The raffle will be drawn at the gala screening of "Watandar, My Countryman" at Wallis Piccadilly Cinemas on Tuesday 4th July, 2023. Muzafar Ali, the star of the film, has visited our school twice, and we are making contact with Cisarua Learning Centre in Bogor, Indonesia, to learn more about refugees from Afghanistan and their life in Indonesia. This is important as LFHS has a strong Indonesian Language program and we love learning about and celebrating the diversity of this country and making links with our own community in Adelaide.
"Watandar, My Countryman touches on some of Australia and the world’s biggest geopolitical stories including; the relationship between colonial, ancient and immigrant Australians, our treatment of refugees, the division between the world’s dominant religions, the success and or lack of success of the international forces in Afghanistan, and the power of individuals to create change."
