The Northern Territory Karen Community will be holding a cultural event to kick off Refugee Week 2021. 

This free event will celebrate the survival and triumph of Karen refugees in the NT through stories, cultural performances and food. The community hopes to bring awareness of what is happening in Karen State.

Currently there are more than 140,000 Karen refugees in 9 of the refugee camps in Thai-Burma Border. The recent Burmese Army jet bombing and attacks have forced 25,000 Karen Internally Displaced People into hiding with no assistance. Since the Myanmar Military coup took over from the 1^st of February 2021, over 750 people have been killed.
