Australian Red Cross invites you to the International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Movie Night - a screening of Watandar, My Countryman by Jolyon Hoff.
THURSDAY 22 JUNE, 2023
6:45 PM ARRIVAL FOR 7:00 PM START
World Refugee day is observed annually on June 20th. It is an international day to honour and raise awareness about the millions of people worldwide who have been forced to flee their homes due to armed conflict, persecution, or human rights violations.
Join us for a special screening and discussion of the thought-provoking film "Watandar: My Countryman". The film explores the concept of country and identity through the lens of Muzafar Ali, a former Afghan-Hazara refugee and human rights activist. Muzafar Ali is photographing the descendants of the Afghan Cameleers in Australia when the Taliban take over in Afghanistan.
The event will also include a discussion led by Katrina Elliot Myerson and Fahima Ahmadi about international humanitarian law (IHL) - the laws of war - in the context of Afghanistan, and what it’s like to arrive and be welcomed in Australia as a refugee.
Tickets are free however we ask that you make a tax-deductible donation to Australian Red Cross to support our continued work with people experiencing vulnerabilities - https://www.redcross.org.au/donate
If you register and cannot attend, please provide us with as much notice as possible to ensure we can fill the seat.
