Come along to the Reginald Murphy Community Centre to celebrate Refugee Week!

Interactive storytelling and performance night

Come along to this fun and interactive evening of storytelling and performance where your story matters.

The evening will be facilitated by Samah Shda from Unbound Stories, who came to Australia as a humanitarian entrant (refugee) from Iraq, via Turkey.

You’ll learn how to tell your story, hear others share their stories of journey and migration, and see stories performed by actors and singers.

The session includes a guided storytelling activity where you’ll work in small groups to develop your own stories using paper, markers and colour. This exercise is rooted in the understanding that refugee stories are not a one-sided performance. You may be asked to be a little vulnerable, share something and be genuinely curious about your fellow storytellers.

The event closes with an exploration of the many ways a story can be shared, with optional support from acting students to help participants bring their story to life.

This event is part of Refugee Week, 14 to 20 June. This year’s theme is ‘A million stories’, celebrating the milestone of Australia welcoming over one million refugees since Word War 2.

Samah Shda is the founder of Unbound Stories, a Sydney-based consultancy specialising in ethical storytelling, cultural safety and community advocacy.

We aim to deliver inclusive and accessible events. If you have any particular access or communication needs, please contact our community worker on 02 9265 9133 or email [email protected].
