Melton City will host a community event to celebrate the contribution of people from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds within the Melton community during Refugee Week this year.

Refugee Week celebrations provide an opportunity for all Australians to celebrate the immense courage, resilience, and valuable contributions people of refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds make to our society.

The theme for Refugee Week this year is #Healing. The importance of human connections has been highlighted by the pandemic. Diverse communities can now draw upon the shared experience of COVID to heal wounds through sharing stories and community reconnection.  

At the Melton City Refugee Week Celebration, we will hear from a special guest speaker –Ahmad Reza Razavi who will share his journey from being a refugee from Afghanistan to becoming a recognised science scholar, social worker, and community leader in Australia. We will also enjoy performances from local dance and music groups from refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds, celebrating their cultures in Melton City.
