As part of Refugee Week, join us for a special Q&A with local author Moreno Giovannoni, exploring themes of migration, identity and belonging. At this free event, Moreno will discuss The Immigrants: Fabula Mirabilis, his writing practice and the stories of migration that shape Australia’s multicultural experience.

Moreno has recently won The Age Book of the Year and the Christina Stead Prize for Fiction 2026 for his novel The Immigrants which makes this event extra special for us to host.

Born in San Ginese, Tuscany, Moreno grew up on a tobacco farm in Victoria. He is the author of the critically acclaimed novels The Fireflies of Autumn and his latest The Immigrants: Fabula Mirabilis which has been widely praised and shortlisted for both the Victorian Premier’s Literary Awards and The Age Book of the Year Award in 2026.

Moreno is also a respected freelance translator and essayist. His essay The Percheron was published in Southerly and selected for The Best Australian Essays 2014, and he received the Deborah Cass Prize in 2016.
