The Refugee Council of Australia is thrilled to bring you our official launch event for Refugee Week 2020 in In partnership with The Wheeler Centre for Books, Writing and Ideas!

On 'Welcome': Migration, First Nations and Refugee Communities

What’s in a welcome? It’s a word we hear often in relation to Australia’s refugee movement – but in the context of hostile refugee policy and unceded sovereignty, what meanings can it hold?

Curated by Director, Creative Producer and Playwright the amazing Grace Edward, join speakers from Australia’s First Nations and refugee communities will reflect on complex ideas of hospitality, community, diversity and tolerance – through Australia’s past and present times.

Introducing our incredible speakers:

  • Shabnam Safa (National Refugee-led Advisory and Advocacy Group - NRAAG Australia)
  • Amiel Nubaha (Thousand Hills Inspire)
  • Gheran Steel (Boon Wurrung Foundation)
  • Ashlee Kearney (First Peoples Disability Network)

When: Sunday 14th of June 2020

6pm - 7:45pm AEST

5:30pm- 7:15pm SA/NT

4pm - 5:45pm WA
