Event Description
Join us for a special film screening with the Aspiring Young Africans Foundation (ASPYA) to celebrate Refugee Week.
'Reclaimed Voices' (2024) is a powerful documentary produced by ASPYA Foundation. The film follows the transformative journey of Sabir Banek, a young man with lived experience of the youth justice system. Sabir’s story is one of profound change – finding employment, embracing his faith, and redefining his future.
Challenging the often-negative media portrayal of the South Sudanese community, the documentary aims to inspire by showcasing real-life examples of loss, redemption and positive change
This unmissable event will feature a screening of the documentary, followed by a panel discussion with Sabir, and ASPYA Foundation co-founder Robiel. Sabir and Robiel will share their insights on the making of the documentary, and answer any questions.
ASPYA Foundation is a leading not-for-profit youth-led organisation based in Melton. Their mission is to reconnect African youth with their communities and empower them to be positive contributors to society.
Refugee Week is an annual event that aims to raise awareness of the challenges facing refugees, and the contributions they offer to our community.
