Join us for a morning tea with guest speaker Tariq Kareemi to celebrate Refugee Week.
Tariq is a legal practitioner, partner of a law firm and an ambassador for the Refugee Council of Australia. He was born when his family were about to leave Afghanistan due to Soviet Union invasion back in late 1980s. They returned to Afghanistan after 9/11. However, their hopes for peace were faced with security challenges due to Taliban’s ongoing attacks.
Tariq arrived in Sydney in late 2010 as an international student. He has since graduated with a master’s degree in international law and international relations from UNSW.
In his talk, Tariq will share his life journey of uncertainty directly impacted by the ongoing conflicts and crises, internal displacements and migration. Learn how he is now advocating and empowering others to have a better understanding of being a refugee.
This talk will be followed by morning tea from Parliament On King, social enterprise catering provided by asylum seekers and refugee.
Tariq's talk will be interpreted in Mandarin.
We aim to deliver inclusive and accessible events. If you have any particular access or communication needs, please contact Mon the Community Services Worker at the Ron Williams Community Centre on 02 9265 9180 or email [email protected]. Mon speaks English, Cantonese, and Mandarin.
