For the first time, a Refugee Camp in My Hospital is being held on the grounds of Fairfield Hospital: the LGA with the largest refugee settlement in Australia. We would love you to join us this Refugee Week.

The Camp is being offered on Thursday 19th June specifically for health professoinals.  Participants are guided in small groups through a simulated camp, led by guides with lived experience and staff from the NSW Refugee Health Service.

This experience will help you:

  • Understand how the refugee experience can impact on wellbeing.
  • Develop your understanding of risk factors for this group.
  • Improve your ability to engage effectively with people from refugee backgrounds.

Previous participants describe the experience as:

“Confronting and powerful experiential learning.”

“... I felt myself getting quite anxious at times, even though I knew that it was a tour.  But it was so realistic and I really felt it.  And I started getting quite emotional. And it really created a greater sense of empathy for me.”

“... The camp experience reminded me of how vulnerable and powerless you are when you don’t know the rules, you can’t understand the language and you don’t have any ID and someone is shouting at you! All conducted by refugees who have arrived in Australia. A high-light was getting to chat with them when they had stopped their terrific role-play. Thoroughly recommend.”

Bookings are essential: Please find attached the invitation to register or BOOK HERE. Want to know more? View the promotional video: - https://youtu.be/ReQ8f3yMfYw
