We’ll be joined by a refugee ambassador, Pyae Phyo Kyaw, from the Refugee Council of Australia (RCOA), who is a Rohingya refugee from Southeast Asia.
Pyae Phyo Kyaw will share his captivating 10-year journey, which saw his family leave his country in 2013, before travelling to various countries, before eventually arriving in Australia in 2014.
When he arrived in Australia, Pyae Phyo Kyaw completed an intensive English course which led to him enrolling in high school, completing his HSC and being awarded the Chancellor Scholarship at university, where he studied a Bachelor of Science (Psychology) in 2019.
Today, Pyae Phyo Kyaw works as a full-time mental health worker and speaks for the RCOA to raise awareness about the lives of refugees and people seeking asylum.
This event is presented in collaboration with Sutherland Shire Council's Community Services.
