About the Presenter: During the civil war in early ‘90s Afghanistan, Shahrnaz and her family were forced to flee to different provinces, eventually migrating to Pakistan for safety. There, she completed her school education. They returned to Afghanistan after the collapse of the Taliban regime in 2002, hopeful for their country’s future. However, this hope was marred by ongoing Taliban attacks. In 2008, she was awarded a scholarship for a Masters at the University of Technology, Sydney. She completed the Masters but returned to Kabul afterwards, with the aim of helping with reconstruction efforts. However, in 2014, the worsening security situation after the withdrawal of international troops compelled her to return to Sydney to seek safety.
This event is aimed at adults aged 18 years and older.
