Join us during Refugee Week for a talk by author Edita Mujkic, as she shares her journey from besieged Sarajevo to a new life in Melbourne. Born and raised in Bosnia, Edita’s life was shattered by war in 1992, forcing her to flee with her two young children, leaving her husband behind. What followed was years of separation, fear, resilience and hope, before their family was finally reunited in Australia.

Drawing on her memoir Between Before and After, Edita speaks of survival, refuge and the life‑changing impact of compassion and community. Her story challenges misconceptions about refugees and celebrates their strength, contributions and capacity to rebuild.
