We no longer detain children in Australia, right?

Recently we've seen how quickly things can change when there is political will.

As parliament re-opens, it's the right time to begin talking about how we can ensure that legislation supports an end to child immigration detention.

This Refugee Week, we are holding a free, online webinar discussing the current opportunities.

Tune in at 6pm on June 18 to hear from:

Hayat Akbari, who was detained for over a year as a child and is now an advocate, completing his law degree in Sydney. He is the current Chair of the Youth working group at the Asia Pacific Refugee Rights Network.

Professor David Isaacs, a paediatrician at the Children's Hospital at Westmead (CHW), Sydney, and Clinical Professor in Paediatric Infectious Diseases at the University of Sydney. He is one of several doctors who have worked extensively on Nauru and has first-hand knowledge of the impact of immigration detention on child health and development. David started and has been head of the Health Assessment for Refugee Kids (HARK) Refugee Clinic at CHW since 2004. HARK sees over 400 asylum seeker and refugee children a year.

Alison Battisson, Lawyer and Principal of Human Rights for All, Alison Battisson has represented some of the most notable immigration detention cases held recently in Australia’s high court. She has been a considerable part of ensuring that children should not be in detention, and in this session she analyses why now is a key time.
