As the UN Refugee Agency’s national partner, Australia for UNHCR raises awareness and funds to support UNHCR’s global response to humanitarian crises.

I am pleased to invite you to a very special event for our supporters to mark this year’s World Refugee Day.

Our in-person event is now sold out but please join us online from anywhere in Australia for this special celebration and an exclusive “virtual mission”.

This year we will be joined by star of the award-winning documentary Rosemary’s Way and winner of the Australian of the Year 2021 Local Hero award, Rosemary Kariuki.

For the past two decades, Rosemary has worked to empower refugee and migrant women in Western Sydney, and connect them to new ideas, experiences and the wider Australian society.

Another highlight of this year’s event will be the launch of a new award for refugee excellence named in honour of football icon and refugee advocate Les Murray AM.

As an online attendee, you will have exclusive access to a special “virtual mission” with UNHCR Jordan External Relations Officer, Lily Carlisle. Lily will take you on a journey where she visits a female-headed household in Jordan to learn more about Syrian refugee families, why they fled and what their day-to-day life is like.

Please register today for this special event. It’s an opportunity to celebrate and learn from the incredible strength and resilience of refugees, and show your support.

Will you come?
