An event to unpack this year’s theme, ‘Unity – the way forward’, and what it means for youth empowerment and community action.  

Through a panel discussion with emerging leaders, lived experience speakers and sector partners, we will facilitate a safe space to exchange stories and ideas, explore emerging trends, and seek advice and recommendations to address the complex barriers that exist for young people throughout their experience of settlement. 

Topics for discussion will include:

• The importance of connection and collaboration in developing supports for young people.
• The various forms of action we can all take to strengthen communities and extend a meaningful welcome.
• The need to walk alongside, listen to and implement advice from new and established refugee communities.

This will be followed by an interactive mapping activity exploring the various mobilisation possibilities across individual, local, and national levels within the different areas of a young person’s settlement journey, such as wellbeing, social connection, and economic and civic participation. This will form a foundational part of a broader opportunity to participate in a co-design project with Australian Red Cross, the details of which will be shared with participants alongside a finalised version of the map.
