What happens when a fair go is taken away?

Across the world, governments are stepping back from their humanitarian commitments. This is happening right when the need is at its greatest: 120 million people around the world are currently displaced. And there is a real risk Australia could follow suit.

Australia’s commitment to refugees is under threat. And when fairness is challenged, we must stand up for it.

Our legacy for resettling refugees dates back decades. Since the end of World War II, Australia has welcomed a million refugees through our Refugee and Humanitarian Program, a million people who have rebuilt their lives here after fleeing war, persecution or violence. Because Australia gave them a fair go, they went on to help build the Australia we know today.

But the future of the very program that provided them safety is now being debated by the Australian Government. There is a real and significant threat to how this country responds to people in need of protection.

Australia’s fair go has changed more than a million lives.

Together, we must do everything we can to protect it.
